Pick up trucks all aim to project an image of toughness; only the Hilux can define it with it’s legendary performance and durability. The harsh conditions in PNG further reinforce the “unbreakable” icon of the Hilux. With the much anticipated improvements on the 8th Generation model, Ela Motors have launched the GD Hilux at 2 showroom locations, Waigani and Lae.
Aesthetically, there are no major changes, however, the GD engine performance, comfort & safety updates (AV unit & reverse camera) mark significant improvement, and continue to add to the legendary status of the Hilux.
The GD Engine (Global Diesel) is available in 2.4L & 2.8L options across the Hilux line up, while the engine capacity has decreased from the KD Engine, boosting the efficiency of the GD engine ultimately achieves improved torque & power.
The evening began with a welcome speech by Ela Motors CEO, Keiichiro Kuwabara, formally greeting our loyal customers from various industries & members of the press, followed by National Sales Manager, Chris Von Oppeln annoucing the GD improvements to the crowd.

For the technically inclined, we were treated to an in depth presentation by Toyota Technical Trainer, John Parau.
John explained to the crowd the new technologies employed in the GD engine, such as the reinforced anodised aluminium in places like the pistons, the new port shapes and combustion chambers. Essentially, the new GD engine provides better thermal efficiency which results in more power with less fuel consumption. John also highlighted the turbocharger designed for the GD engine, now more compact, coupled with a newly designed impeller & turbine, allowing the delivery of instant torque and quick engine response.
Customers in attendance were also treated to an official video of the GD Hilux detailing many Features & Benefits, through simple to understand video visuals allowing our customers to appreciate the added value in this release.
Upon closing of the evening, the Marketing Team conducted a lucky draw where 5 winners each received an official merchandise pack; the giveaways create an opportunity to introduce the friendly faces of the Dealership & Sales Managers on the stage where they can present the gifts to loyal customers, and create rapport with new businesses.
With major events such as the Rugby World Cup, and the APEC summit in 2018, Ela Motors also took this opportunity to showcase the brand new 44 seater Hino Bus.
